Highly Specialist Clinical or Counselling Psychologist

Are you an HCPC-registered Clinical or Counselling Psychologist looking to develop your expertise in complex mental health, trauma, autism, personality disorders, eating disorders, OCD, self-harm and neurodiversity within a specialist inpatient setting?

This role offers the opportunity to work alongside a highly skilled multidisciplinary team, delivering formulation-led, evidence-based psychological interventions while helping shape and develop specialist services.

Responsibilities

As a Highly Specialist Clinical or Counselling Psychologist, you will:

  • Provide specialist psychological assessments, formulations and interventions for adults with complex mental health needs.
  • Deliver evidence-based therapeutic interventions in individual, family and group formats.
  • Support patients with presentations including autism, complex trauma, personality disorders, functional neurological disorder (FND), eating difficulties, depression, OCD and self-harm.
  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary colleagues to develop effective care and treatment plans.
  • Offer psychological consultation, advice and guidance to other professionals across the service.
  • Contribute to risk assessment and risk management planning.
  • Support patients and families throughout their recovery journey and preparation for life outside hospital.
  • Supervise and support assistant psychologists, therapeutic support workers and psychology trainees where appropriate.
  • Participate in research, service evaluation, quality improvement and audit projects.
  • Deliver training and contribute to the ongoing development of psychological thinking across the service.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • HCPC registration as a Clinical Psychologist or Counselling Psychologist.
  • Experience working with adults experiencing complex mental health difficulties.
  • Excellent assessment, formulation and therapeutic intervention skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong communication and report-writing skills.
  • A compassionate, professional and recovery-focused approach to patient care.

Desirable

  • Experience working within inpatient, forensic, specialist mental health or eating disorder services.
  • Experience supporting individuals with autism, complex trauma, personality disorders or other complex co-morbid presentations.
  • Knowledge of therapeutic approaches such as Trauma-Focused CBT, CBT-ED, DBT, Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) or neurodiversity-informed interventions.
  • Experience in teaching, supervision, research or service development activities.
