Description

Field Human Resources Business Partner

Build trust. Support employees. Strengthen our field teams.

Dome Construction is seeking a Field Human Resources Business Partner to serve as a trusted advisor, coach, and resource for our field employees and leaders.

This role is focused on building strong relationships, fostering trust, and providing hands-on partnership where work happens. The Field HRBP serves as a visible and approachable presence within the field, helping employees navigate questions and concerns while supporting leaders in addressing workforce challenges, employee relations matters, and organizational needs.

Working closely with employees ranging from Carpenter and Laborer apprentices through General Superintendents, the Field HRBP promotes a positive employee experience, strengthens communication, and helps ensure fair and consistent application of company policies, practices, and collective bargaining agreements.

The ideal candidate understands both the technical and people aspects of a construction workforce. They have experience supporting both unionized and non-unionized environments and appreciate the day-to-day realities field employees face, from safety expectations and workplace injuries to workforce movement, union agreements, and employee relations matters. They can confidently provide guidance related to collective bargaining agreements, union benefits, grievances, dispatching, workforce planning, and labor-management interactions, and other workforce challenges while serving as a trusted resource to employees and leaders alike.

To effectively support our diverse field workforce, we are seeking a bilingual (English/Spanish) candidate who can build trust, understand perspectives across the organization, and ensure employees can comfortably communicate questions, concerns, and ideas in the language they are most comfortable using.

What You’ll Do

As the Field HR Business Partner, you will connect what is happening on our jobsites with the broader needs of the business. You will build credibility through regular field presence, listen to employee concerns, coach field leaders, and help resolve issues before they escalate.

In this role, you will:

  • Maintain a regular presence on jobsites, typically two to three days per week, to build relationships and stay connected to the needs of field employees.
  • Serve as a trusted HR partner for field employees, Foremen, Superintendents, and Operations leaders.
  • Provide real-time coaching on employee relations, performance management, communication, conflict resolution, documentation, and leadership effectiveness.
  • Interpret and support the administration of Collective Bargaining Agreements.
  • Help employees and leaders understand applicable union benefits, requirements, rules, and processes.
  • Assist with grievances and communicate professionally with union representatives.
  • Coordinate union dispatching, staffing changes, layoffs, recalls, transfers, and workforce movement between projects.
  • Conduct workplace investigations and support corrective action, performance management, and employee documentation.
  • Lead employee check-ins, stay interviews, exit interviews, and 30, 60, and 90-day onboarding follow-ups.
  • Provide onsite onboarding and orientation support for field employees.
  • Partner with Benefits and Leaves, Safety, Payroll, HR, and field leadership on employee concerns, leaves, accommodations, workplace injuries, and return-to-work planning.
  • Monitor trends involving employee relations matters, grievances, injuries, separations, onboarding feedback, and workforce changes to support proactive decision-making.

What You Bring

  • Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish is required.
  • Five or more years of progressive HR experience, including employee relations, investigations, performance management, and employment law compliance.
  • Experience supporting a field-based, construction, skilled trades, operational, or unionized workforce.
  • Familiarity with Collective Bargaining Agreements, union benefits, union rules and regulations, grievance processes, and labor relations practices sufficient to effectively support field employees, supervisors, and project teams.
  • Strong knowledge of California employment laws and HR best practices.
  • The ability to build trust with employees and leaders across different roles and levels of the organization.
  • Sound judgment when managing sensitive, confidential, or high-pressure situations.
  • Strong communication, conflict resolution, organization, and follow-through.
  • The ability to balance multiple priorities while remaining responsive and visible in the field.
  • Proficiency with HR systems and Microsoft Office.

The ideal candidate brings meaningful HR experience supporting employees and leaders in field-based work environments and has demonstrated success building trust, navigating employee relations matters, and serving as a valued resource to the workforce. A bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred, but we welcome candidates with equivalent combinations of experience, education, and professional certifications. HR certifications such as PHR, PHRca, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP are highly valued.

Work Environment and Travel

This role requires regular travel to active jobsites and regional offices, primarily throughout Northern California, with possible occasional travel to Southern California as business needs arise. Local and regional travel by personal vehicle is required, and periodic air or overnight travel may be needed.

Because this position works directly in active construction environments, the Field HR Business Partner must be comfortable navigating jobsites, including uneven surfaces, stairs, and temporary project facilities, and must follow all required safety and personal protective equipment protocols.

Why This Role Matters

This is an opportunity to be a true champion for the employee experience in the field. We're looking for someone who enjoys connecting with employees, earning trust, understanding their perspectives, and helping ensure they feel heard, supported, and valued throughout their employment journey.

As a Field HRBP, you will build meaningful relationships across our jobsites, serve as a trusted resource for employees and leaders, and help bring the voice of the field into organizational conversations and decision-making. Through your work, you'll help strengthen communication, improve the employee experience, and ensure our field workforce has access to responsive, knowledgeable, and consistent HR support.

If you are a bilingual HR professional who understands construction environments and is energized by helping people succeed, building relationships, and making a positive impact on employees' day-to-day work experiences, we would love to hear from you.
